How The Naples Florida Economy And Tourism Support Business And Career Growth

By Jony Mozen

Naples, located in Collier County, is one of the most beautiful cities on Florida's Gulf Coast. Tourism is the largest and most important element of the Naples Florida Economy that supports booming real estate and retail growth, and is attracting all kinds of businesses. Not to mention that the Naples metro area is a retiree paradise. Their large nest eggs and heavy spending add more fuel to the economic growth and speed up job creation.

The biggest draw is unquestionably the 10 miles of soft white beach sand. It helps that the Everglades are so close to the city, which also has its own share of tourist attractions and landmarks. Together, all this makes it one of the Sunshine State's most popular destinations. It's a significant accomplishment since Orlando and Miami usually hog all the international visitors and the families on summer holidays.

The thing that makes this city stand apart is the beautiful beach that has been declared as America's best beach by the Travel Channel. Visitors actually can choose from among the six pristine beaches in the area. Top that off with about 80 championship golf courses which keep a lot of the residents and retirees content and happy to live here.

Of course, it's not always been such a feel-good story. This city, the same as every Gulf Coast community in Florida, has faced significant challenges in the past. The real estate crash sent property prices plummeting and millions of homes were foreclosed. The tourism business was completely destroyed when the BP oil spill hit the beaches and tourists stayed away for a couple of years.

The unemployment rate peaked at 12.2% during the worst days of the crisis in early 2010. It took some time for the area to recover from the recession and the oil spill, but the economy has been on a tear since 2012. There are more tourists than ever before, housing prices have stabilized, and obscenely wealthy retirees are once again spending their fat nest eggs buying up property and spending the rest in local shops and businesses.

Among the 200 largest metro areas in the country, it is Naples that has the highest rate of job growth now. Unemployed has dropped to a meager 5.4%, while median incomes for households have risen up to $56,759. The 4.1% rate of job growth that puts the metro area at the top nationally is predicted to continue at this rate or higher through 2016.

Needless to say, such growth doesn't happen by itself. The year-round sunshine, Naples Bay and the white sand beaches are no doubt invaluable assets, as are the Everglades. But it takes a whole lot more than natural beauty and tourists to convince businesses to make investments and create a large number of jobs.

It's the low taxation and other business-friendly policies that companies say they liked when choosing where to locate. Officials representing the city and county work with the State of Florida, Greater Naples Chamber and other organizations to help provide businesses with everything needed to grow and create new jobs. The best part is that hiring and retaining valuable employees is very easy because of the great work-life balance and the high quality of life. Employees relocate here not just for a job, but because they want to build a home and a career in Naples.
